This thesis studies the issue of mobility in an urbanizing world. It is based on the case study of the Dakar metropolitan area to show the vulnerability of transport systems in African cities subject to a context marked by rapid and poorly controlled urbanization. The Dakar region is the most urbanized in Senegal. And, notwithstanding that it was equipped with spatial planning tools very early on, the failures of its urban planning tools led to malfunctions of the transport system. And, the public urban transport policies implemented have remained ineffective in the face of steadily growing demand for travel.
