Considering the dimensions of cells, using microtechnologies has numerous advantages to handle single cells for stimulation and detection. Biophysical properties, such as mechanical and electrical, can be targeted by the MEMS technology. However, MEMS devices perform poorly in conductive liquids for both mechanical and electrical detection. Therefore, this study proposes to separate the biological sample handling from mechanical actuation and electrical detection regions of a MEMS device.
