Recycled aggregates are alternative materials for construction, manufactured by the crushing and screening of inert construction and demolition wastes. They are complex materials mainly composed of demolition concrete and natural stones. The properties of recycled aggregates are highly dependent on their nature and, unlike natural aggregates, they can be highly reactive. This research focused on the reactivity of a recycled sand in contact with CO2, first at the grain scale and then at the scale of a compacted granular stacking. The effects of this reactivity on the microstructural and mechanical properties of Compacted Recycled Sand (CRS) were also investigated.
