Almost 20% of cancers are due to a viral, bacterial or parasitic infection. For instance, Cryptosporidium parvum (C. parvum) was found to induce the development of an invasive digestive adenocarcinomas in an experimental model of SCID mice.However, the understanding of the pathogenesis of Cryptosporidium has been limited by the lack of a long-term culture system. It is therefore essential to improve the in vitro culture systems by trying to mimic the in vivo conditions.
