The knowledge of the mechanisms involved in the CVD process of boron nitride is essential regarding the use of this material as interphase in SiC/SiC composites. The experimental study of the variations of the BN growth rate as a function of pressure, temperature, total flow rate and initial gas phase composition has allowed: (i) to observe the transition from mass transfer to chemical reaction rate-controlled processes, (ii) to establish different kinetic laws and (iii) to propose reactional mechanisms according to these laws.
