Teachers are a mobilised group with a strong tradition of collective action. However, this legacy is currently challenged by socio-demographic and generational change in a context where educational system is going through important institutional transformations. Although recent studies have insisted on strong politicisation of teachers and their maintained involvement in collective action, they have also pointed out their growingly lukewarm attitude towards unions and the professional group. It is during early career, when individuals both learn the trade and get involved in professional collective action, that socialisation can be best observed.
