This doctoral research aims to study how the command of the target language shapes the instructional skills of non-specialist teachers at primary school. The theoretical framework brings in key concepts on teaching practices as well as interaction analysis. In the thesis we examine how primary school teachers implement the teaching of two school subjects: French and second language learning. The analysis is based on the recorded observation of 6 primary-school teachers in the course of 15 lessons, six French lessons and nine lessons of German or English as a second language. Video-based discussions and talks on language biographies were carried out with each teacher. We study the organization of turn-taking and the verbal action of teachers...
