Fire Station 204 is inspired by nature, specifically gentle rolling hills; it combines natural elements with a modern twist. Two sweeping green roofs start low in the front and curve up towards the back to help the building feel like it is connected with the nature around it. These green roofs help to insulate the building, and a rainwater capture system is connected to them to help run the building’s plumbing. Nature helps people feel more comfortable and relaxed, so incorporating natural elements in the station gives it curb appeal as well as helps the fire fighters to relax from their stressful job. The main entrance vestibule is encased in glass and sticks up above the green roof to make it obvious to the public where to enter. An exterior patio and garden sheltered by a green roof is open to both the pubic and the fire fighters, connecting the community to this station. Within the station, many elements are included to help mitigate the harmful carcinogenic toxins that the fire fighters are exposed to on-site, as well as to help their bodies detox. This station is their home away from home, and this proposal makes it a safer and more enjoyable space to be
