Poïétiques cosmographiques : expériences territoriales, poétiques environnementales

The origin of this research lies in a ten-year field experiment, which favoured the comparative observation of two cultures, with particular attention to the modalities of access to the world with which they engage. The research is organized between two territories constituting two very different ecumene (Augustin Berque): France and Mexico. The thesis, dealing in the field of visual arts, offers the framework for the construction of a dual regime of investigation, verbal and plastic, in order to accommodate the diversity of both cultures, by shedding light on the porosity of each discipline (visual arts, landscape science, anthropology, ethnography, philosophy), in contact with an elsewhere that moves, modifies and repositions knowledge and the civilisations that formulate it. From the analysis of artworks and the contributions of the field experience, the thesis examines, by intertwining the issues of landscape, nature and the environment, the place of Mankind in the world and his means of relating to it, by alternately considering two postures, related to the two studied cultures: being in the world (continuous regime of the Mexican ontology) or facing up to the world (Western cultural landscape construction).This examination leads at first to questioning the landscape - considered as a mental construct, as a cultural filter through which the world is perceived (European landscape models, perspective) - in favour of the emergence of questions related to the environment. It becomes then a question of rethinking the question of perception, distinguishing the "seeing as" (linked to the exercise of perceptual filters) from the "seeing" (considered as a "direct" perception), an interrogation which positions the body of the researcher at the centre of research.The prospective study of a bodily experience of space, conducted in Mexico, invites us to analyse how to deconstruct the patterns of our relationship to the world stemming from Western culture, through the shamanic experience. This approach, akin to autoethnography, implies on the epistemological level a consideration of the relativism and the researcher’s subjectivity in the research. It sees its accomplishment in the artistic gesture, in the implementation of a plastic poiesis, considered as the fruit of a way of being - a close relation between Mankind, the world and matter - before being a way of doing things.L’origine de cette recherche se trouve dans une expérience de terrain, engagée durant dix ans, qui a favorisé l’observation comparative de deux cultures, en s’intéressant tout particulièrement aux modalités d’accès au monde qu’elles engagent. La recherche s’organise entre deux territoires constituant deux « prises écouménales » (Augustin Berque) très différentes : la France et le Mexique. La thèse, située dans le domaine des arts plastiques, offre le cadre de construction d’un double régime d’investigation, discursif et plastique, en mesure d’accueillir la diversité des deux cultures, en mettant en jeu la porosité des disciplines (arts visuels, sciences du paysage, anthropologie, ethnographie, philosophie), au contact d’un ailleurs qui déplace, modifie et repositionne les connaissances et les sociétés qui les formulent. À partir de l’analyse d’ œuvres et des apports de l’expérience de terrain, la thèse questionne, en croisant les questions du paysage, de la nature et de l’environnement, la place de l’homme dans le monde et sa façon de se mettre en relation avec celui-ci, en envisageant alternativement deux postures, liées aux deux cultures étudiées : être dans le monde (régime continuiste de l’ontologie mexicaine) ou être face au monde (construction culturelle occidentale du paysage). Ce questionnement conduit dans un premier temps à exercer une mise en doute du paysage considéré comme une construction mentale, comme un filtre culturel au travers duquel le monde est perçu (modèles paysagers européens, perspective) – au profit de l’émergence de questions liées à l’environnement. Il s’agit alors de repenser la question de la perception, en distinguant le « voir comme » (lié à l’exercice de filtres perceptuels) du « voir » (envisagé comme une perception « directe »), interrogation qui positionne le corps du chercheur au centre de la recherche. Le bilan prospectif d’une expérience corporelle de l’espace, menée au Mexique, invite à analyser comment déconstruire les schèmes constitutifs de notre rapport au monde issus de la culture occidentale, au travers de l’expérience chamanique. Cette démarche, apparentée à l’autoethnographie, implique sur le plan épistémologique une prise en compte du relativisme et de la subjectivité du chercheur dans la recherche. Elle voit son accomplissement dans le geste artistique, dans la mise en œuvre d’une poïétique plastique, considérée comme le fruit d’une manière d’être avant d’être une manière de faire
