George Salton and Ruth Salton oral history interview

Oral history interview with Holocaust survivors George Salton and Ruth Salton. George Salton was born in 1928 in Przemysl, Poland. In 1942, the Germans began deporting the town\u27s Jewish population to various camps. Mr. Salton was then taken to the first of ten camps; in 1945, he was liberated by American troops at Wöbbelin. Once he was liberated, Mr. Salton enlisted in the United States Army. Mrs. Ruth Wolfberg Salton was born in 1928 in Tomaszów Lubelski, Poland, where she lived with her family until 1939. Mrs. Salton was on summer vacation in Warsaw when the Germans invaded Poland. She escaped Warsaw by train and hid in Russian occupied Poland. After the war Mrs. Salton aided the emigration of Jewish orphans to Palestine, modern day Israel. The two met in New York City and they were soon married, after which Mrs. Salton immigrated to the United States from Israel. They moved to Rome, New York where they raised their three children. They retired to the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. During his retirement George wrote the book The 23rd Psalm: A Holocaust Memoir
