Originally built in 1986 as part of Barnett Bank, the trees and sculpture scale down the formidable and coldly formal bank building. This plaza contributes to the pedestrians\u27 city. However, banks do not do nearly as well as shops, restaurants, and entertainment areas in creating people-busy street-level functions. Ground floors of skyscrapers have to be given up to these functions. As it is, the Tampa street level is dominated by banks and cars, with the current amenities being mere afterthoughts.
