Oral interview with Bessie Fowler, former Director of Nursing at the Lee County Department of Health. Mrs. Fowler came to Florida in 1957 after serving in the U.S. Army and specializing in communicable diseases. She began working in the Polk County Health Department and continued there for ten years where she helped develop maternity programs for the county. In Lee County, Fowler was integral in creating the home health care agency. She also worked with migrant health care and immunization. Fowler retired in 1988
