In South Carolina, silvicultural guidelines were first published in 1976 by the South Carolina Forestry Association. Best Management Practices for South Carolina's Forest Wetlands was published by the South Carolina Forestry Commission in 1989. The first attempt at monitoring Best Management Practices compliance in South Carolina was completed in 1990. At that time, overall BMP compliance for the state was 84%. The current study was designed to build upon this initial monitoring effort by Hook et al. to determine the level of compliance with BMPs a s well as the major factors which affect BMP compliance for timber harvesting operations in South Carolina
