The 90-KDa heat shock protein (Hsp90) is part of the molecular chaperone family, and as such it is involved in the regulation of protein homeostasis within cells. Specifically, Hsp90 aids in the folding of nascent proteins and re-folding of denatured proteins. It also plays an important role in the prevention of protein aggregation. Hsp90’s functionality is attributed to its several staged, multi-conformational ATPase cycle, in which associated client proteins are bound and released.
