Device for breathing monitoring

Curs 2020-2021The present project presents the process followed for the creation of a breathing mon itoring device based on changes that differentiate the exhalation from the inhalation. The exhaled air and the inhaled air differ in temperature and sound, among other parameters. Starting from this base it is possible to differentiate the exhalation phases from the inhalation phases. The sensors chosen are a low cost thermistor and a condenser microphone. A thermistor is a resistor whose resistance is tem perature dependent. By measuring the resistance of the thermistor, the purpose of the device is achieved. The condenser microphone is not used due to its processing that its readings require. The device is a facial mask which incorporates the system presented in this project. The thermistor is located on the inside of the mask, thus it is heated by the warm air coming from the nose or mouth that comes in contact with it. For visual purposes, the mask integrates a LED which when the user exhales it is green and when the user inhales it is red. The Arduino program is chosen to control the system. Three codes are presented for this program, the first two being codes used temporarily and the third being the definitive and effective one. A fourth code with Matlab is used to verify the correct operation of the device. This code reads the system data sent by the Arduino and is later analyzed using the Signal Analyzer application (provided by the Matlab program). As a result of the implementation of the codes a database has been created with different breathing samples taken at different breathing frequencies.El present projecte presenta el procés seguit per a la creació d’un dispositiu per la monitorització de la respiració basat en canvis que diferencien l’exhalació de la inhalació. L’aire espirat i l’aire inspirat difereixen en temperatura i so entre altres paràme tres. Partint d’aquesta base és possible diferenciar les fases d’exhalació de les fases d’inhalació. Els sensors escollits són un termistor de baix cost i un micròfon con densador. Un termistor és una resistència, la resistència de la qual depèn de la temperatura. Mesurant la resistència d’aquest termistor, s’aconsegueix l’objectiu del dispositiu. El micròfon de condensador no s’utilitza a causa del processament que requereix la seva lectura. El dispositiu és una màscara facial que incorpora el sistema presentat en aquest projecte. El termistor està situat a l’interior de la màscara, per la qual cosa s’escalfa per l’aire calent que surt del nas o la boca que entra en contacte amb ell. A efectes visuals, la màscara integra un LED que, quan l’usuari exhala, és verd; i quan l’usuari inhala, és vermell. Es tria el programa Arduino per controlar el sistema. Es presenten tres codis per a aquest programa, els dos primers són codis utilitzats temporalment i el tercer és el definitiu i efectiu. S’utilitza un quart codi amb Matlab per verificar el correcte funcionament del dispositiu. Aquest codi llegeix les dades del sistema enviades per Arduino i posteriorment s’analitzen mitjançant l’aplicació Signal Analyzer (propor cionada pel propi programa Matlab). Com a resultat de la implementació dels codis, s’ha creat una base de dades amb diferents mostres de respiració preses a diferents freqüències de respiració
