Equine oocyte cryopreservation is an assisted reproductive technology that allows to preserve female genetic material from valuable mares. The main objective of this thesis was to optimize the evaluation and vitrification of equine oocyte. In chapter 1, two concentrations of the fluorochrome Hoechst 33342 (HO) were compared to assess the nuclear chromatin stage of the oocyte after vitrification using nonpermeable and permeable cryoprotectant agents (CPAs). A higher percentage of oocytes showing upper visibility grade was found when using a lower concentration of fluorescent labels.
