Urban Development in Sri Lanka is presently receiving priority under the Government Development Programme. Towards this end it has embarked upon massive programmes involving several projects that would have a major impact in the large Cities and Towns in the country. In this connection, the provincial capitals of Batticaloa and Kandy have received priority attention outside the Colombo Metropolitan region.
