Interaction between peridotite and pyroxenite-derived melts can significantly modify the mineralogy and chemistry of the upper mantle, enhancing its heterogeneity, by creating re-fertilized peridotites and secondary-type pyroxenites. We experimentally investigated the reaction between a fertile lherzolite and MgOrich basaltic andesite produced by partial melting of an olivine-free pyroxenite at 2 GPa and 1300-1450 degrees C.
