Advancing age causes physiologic decline in tissue function. In the hematopoietic system this manifests as a progressive reduction in blood or immune cell function and clonal hematopoiesis, where a mutated hematopoietic stem cell can dominate blood cell production and confer an increased propensity for myeloid malignancy.
