Studies have shown that human albumin undergoes a considerable reduction in its capacity to bind exogenous cobalt (Ischemia Modified Albumin (IMA); Ischemia Technologies, Denver, Colorado, USA), as measured by the albumin cobalt binding test, when exposed to an ischaemic insult.
