The aquaculture development on a global scale is facing a set of challenges including a growing food demand for seafood in response to global demography, a global biodiversity crisis and major and global changes whose effects of climate change. IPBES underlined the importance of Aïchi's objectives which cannot be achieved by current trajectories therefore requiring strong changes in production sectors. Moreover, the COVID-related crisis has revealed the low resilience of globalized production systems and the value of relocation. If aquaculture poses environmental challenges, it has competitive advantages compared to other animal productions, thus leading it to meet the challenge of food security by 2050.
