PENGARUH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK DAUN KEMANGI (Ocimum sanctum L.) TERHADAP PENURUNAN KADAR ASAM URAT DARAH MENCIT (Mus musculus L.) HIPERURISEMIA SEBAGAI SUMBER BELAJAR BIOLOGI

Uric acid is a product of purine metabolism which most of it comes from the purines catabolism in nucleus catalyzed by the xanthine oxidase enzyme. Excess uric acid in the blood to exceed the normal limits is called hyperuricemia. Basil leaf extract contains flavonoid compounds in the form of luteolin, quercetin, apigenin, and kaemferol that act as inhibitors of the xanthine oxidase. This research was aimed to analyze the effect of basil leaf extract (Ocimum sanctum L.) on reducing blood uric acid levels in mice (Mus musculus L.) with hyperuricemia as a source of biology learning. This research used a quantitative approach with experimental research and development studies. The research design was used in experimental research is a pretest-posttest control group design with an experimental design using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatment groups, i.e. K+ (allopurinol), K- (CMC-Na 0.5%), P1 (0.7 mg/20gBW), P2 (1.4 mg/20gBW), and P3 (2.8 mg/20gBW). Hyperuricemia condition in mice was performed by intraperitoneal induction of potassium oxonate at a dose of 6 mg/20gBW. The data were tested using the one-way ANOVA test and continued with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results of data analysis showed that there were differences in the average decrease in blood uric acid levels in mice in the five treatment groups. The highest decrease occurred in the positive control group, which was 3.74 mg/dL and the lowest decrease occurred in the negative control group, which was 1.44 mg/dL. The basil leaf extract (Ocimum sanctum L.) that best in reducing blood uric acid levels in mice (Mus musculus L.) was dose 3 (2.8 mg/20gBW) with an average decrease of 3.28 mg/dL.
