Complex immune dysregulation is a hallmark of sepsis. The occurring phases of immunosuppression and hyperinflammation require rapid detection and close monitoring. Reliable tools to monitor patient's immune status are yet missing. Currently, microRNAs are being discussed as promising new biomarkers in sepsis.
