Within this dissertation electrode modifications for improved anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer durability are investigated. Ionic and inert catalyst binders were analyzed during electrolysis and the relationships between material properties and electrode stabilization or degradation are discussed. Systematic analysis of electrode formulations illuminates different catalyst deactivation mechanisms and potential solutions.M.S
