Innovative small / medium-scale energy solutions for food production in rural areas

Youth participation in agricultural cooperatives is understood as a key element in sustainable food production. In the Cifuentes municipality of Villa Clara province, renewable sources of energy encourage new forms of participation in the management of the cooperative organization. Reason why the research stay was aimed at documenting innovative energy solutions developed at the KTH for rural or isolated environments, with special attention to the social approach. In the area of energy knowledge, how participation / social acceptance is treated in solutions for rural or isolated environments is explored. Sustainable energy solutions in rural settings for food production were also investigated, highlighting the social approach. Among the multiple investigations on innovative and sustainable energy solutions developed at the KTH, it was decided to document those that are viable for rural or isolated environments, with special attention to the social approach. 362 publications were identified from 2009 to 2021 with relevant result for this research, these propose improvement in energy systems starting from biogas and linked to renewable energy for agriculture. From these 32 are those that have a direct contribution with their energy solutions for rural or isolated environments, however, only in 20 the social approach is precisely explicit, among them there are investigations from Bolivia (six), Colombia (four) and Cuba (one).QC 20220210Chapter within the doctoral thesis on a case study in the Cuban municipality of Cifuente
