THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ SELF-EFFICACY, LANGUAGE AWARENESS AND SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT AT 11TH GRADE STUDENTS’ OF MA AT-THOHIRIYAH NGANTRU

Keywords: Students’ Self-Efficacy, Language awareness and Speaking Achievement. Speaking is an activity of delivering massage, it occurs between speaker and listener orally. In other words, the main point of the speaking activity is that speakers deliver the message to the listeners. According to Nunan (2006), speaking is defined as the use of language quickly and confidently with few unnatural pauses. However, in speaking activities, students often faced difficulty in communication because they have low motivation and they are not confident with their capability in doing a task. Therefore, students’ confidence and consciousness played an important factor that influenced their speaking. This study investigated the correlation between students’ self-efficacy and language awareness through their speaking achievement of 11th-grade students’ of MA AT-THOHIRIYAH, Ngantru. The researcher took the data form 40 students of 11th grade which is being the sample of this research. And correlational design used to find out the correlation between students’ self-efficacy, language, and speaking achievement. The researcher got data from two questionnaires; self-efficacy and language awareness questionnaire, and speaking scores from the speaking test conducted by the researcher. The collected data were analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 22.0 program. Here, spearman ranks’ correlation and multiple regression used to test the hypothesis. The result of the findings showed that, a significant value or sig. (2-tailed) was 0,000 for self-efficacy and 0.002 for language awareness. It means that, sig. (2-tailed) of the two variables smaller than 0.05. It can be interpreted that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and language awareness of students' speaking achievement. Based on the correlation coefficient result, it showed that 0.602 on self-efficacy and correlation coefficient 0.467 on language awareness, this showed a positive correlation value from this variable. finally, The researcher got number Sig. F = 0,002 < 0,05 which means H0 is rejected. If H0 is rejected then the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In other words, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between students’ self-efficacy, language awareness, and students’ speaking achievement. Thus, in general, it can be concluded that the three variables have relationships although they have different degree of relationships
