BackgroundClinicians have limited evidence on which to base their practice to effectively discharge older people from emergency. The aim of the review was to assess the effectiveness of interventions used for the discharge of older people from the emergency department to their home in the community by emergency clinicians.MethodsThe PRISMA guidelines were followed. The search comprised seven databases including CINAHL Complete, Medline and EMBASE, and additionally unpublished literature sources including trial registries and theses databases. The results were presented for three outcomes: mortality; emergency department representation after the index visit; and physical function.
