Brain tumors are masses of abnormal cells in the brain that often require immediate intervention when detected. Their treatment has to be optimized so that maximum amount of tumor tissue is removed without damaging healthy brain tissue and causing neurological deficits. Functional neuroimaging methods such as magnetoencephalography (MEG) can map important brain regions that need to be preserved during tumor treatment. However, currently MEG is clinically mainly used in epilepsy surgery planning and its application in tumor treatment planning is in its infancy.
