The structural behaviour and design of cold-formed steel square and rectangular hollow section (SHS and RHS) beam–columns, made of both normal and high strength steels, are investigated in the present study through a comprehensive numerical modelling programme. Refined finite element (FE) models were first established and calibrated against a collection of existing cold-formed steel member test results from the literature. Following this, an extensive parametric study was undertaken to expand the cold-formed steel beam–column data pool, covering a wider range of steel grades, cross-section geometries, member slendernesses and loading combinations.
