THE PRIEST AND SCIENTIST DIMITRIE BALAUR (110 years since birth)

Dimitrie Balaur (born September 4, 1903 – died April 19, 1996) was a distinguished priest and folklorist. „Apart from the two eminent folklorists, Gheorghe V. Madan and Petre V. Stefanuca, the Lapusna County is famous for another folklorist from the 1930s, Balaur, with a smaller contribution and therefore less known. However, we should talk about him, because in the interwar folklore he was the only Bessarabean who has printed a remarkable collection: From the popular literature of Bessarabia (in the village of Rezeni - Lapusna) in our fi rst edition of the folklore magazine” (Iordan Datcu).
