Introduction: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a fatal condition for very-low-birth-weight infants. Necrotizing enterocolitis is a multi-factor phenomenon that results in intestinal mucosal damage and leads to intestinal necrosis. However, sensitive laboratory indicators for NEC are lacking, making early diagnosis difficult.
