In the context of the DRC where conflicts persist and violence seems to be a skill, the dissertation aims to understand the meaning of violence beyond recent decades. It dates back to a long history to reveal the roots of this violence. Inscribed in the themes of the market and the exploitation of the body, the thesis demonstrates that the violence currently occurring in Congo should be understood as a continuation of the quest for wealth, whatever its origin, internal or external. My terrain are the quarries and artisanal mining sites in Kivu, in Eastern DRC.
