Results of external evaluations, such as PISA, SAEB and SAEP, reveal the low level of proficiency of Brazilian students in Mathematics in basic education. Based on the assumption that learning is the result of educational interactions in which students participate, we look at the ways as it is expected the teaching of mathematical concepts. In order to have more objective data about what is learnt and what is taught, it was necessary to opt for the analysis of a particular situation, in this case, the external evaluations data from a municipality in the state of Paraná, as well as the curricular organization of this subject in the respective municipality.
