Environmental Sustainability as a Basis for Undergraduates Civil Engineers at Public Universities of Pernambuco

A construção civil é uma das indústrias que mais impactam ambientalmente pela relação da extração da matéria-prima, energia e geração de resíduos. A maioria das obras não utiliza critérios de sustentabilidade. O objetivo desta pesquisa é a realização do levantamento do conteúdo dos Trabalhos de Conclusão de Curso – TCCs e dos Programas Pedagógicos de Curso – PPC das Instituições de Ensino Superior - IES públicas de engenharia civil do estado de Pernambuco, totalizando seis campi, em cinco IES, identificando elementos relacionados à sustentabilidade ambiental, aplicados ao ensino da engenharia civil. Os resultados mostraram que apenas em cinco PPCs o termo sustentabilidade foi encontrado, dentre 22 citações. O meio ambiente foi identificado nos seis PPCs, totalizando 86 citações. Nos TCCs, elaborados por 4 IES, que tiveram concluintes em 2019.1, o termo sustentabilidade foi encontrado em 111 citações e meio ambiente, em 152, respectivamente. Conclui-se que existe necessidade da revisão dos PPCs, como também o incentivo aos TCCs na inclusão de temas que possam prover, aos futuros engenheiros, o correlacionamento das áreas meio ambiente e sustentabilidade de modo transversal nas matrizes curriculares.Civil construction is one of the industries that most impact the environment due to the relationship between the extraction of raw materials, energy and waste generation. Most works do not use any sustainability criteria. The objective of this research is to carry out a survey of the content of the Course Conclusion Papers – CCPs and of the Pedagogical Course Programs – PCP of Higher Education Institutions – HEIs public civil engineering in the state of Pernambuco, totaling six campuses, in Five HEIs, identifying elements related to environmental sustainability, applied to the teaching of civil engineering. The results showed that only in Five PCPs the term sustainability was found, among 22 citations. The environment was identified in the six PCPs, totaling 86 citations. In the CCPs, prepared by 4 HEIs, which had graduates in 2019.1, the term sustainability was found in 111 citations and the environment, in 152, respectively. It is concluded that there is a need for revision of the PCPs, as well as the incentive to the CCPs in the inclusion of themes that can provide, to future engineers, the correlation of the environment and sustainability areas in a transversal way in the curricular matrices
