Representasi Peran Ayah Pada Vito Corleone Dalam Film The Godfather

This research is conducted to find out the father’s rolesigns, objects, and interpretants played by Vito Corleone in Mario Puzo’s The Godfather Movie by using semiotic analysis. This research starts from the movie which is made with the action-criminal taste, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and producted by Albert S. Ruddy with the scenario by Mario Puzo and Coppola. It is starred by Marlon Brando (Vito Corleone) and Al Pacino as the leader of a criminal family in New York. Vito Corleone’s character in this movie is as one of the respected Silsilia Mafia leader in America. Besides, he’s also a wise loving father to his family. However, it is not clearly seen because of the mafia elements within this movie so this character is interesting to be analyzed. There are scenes in this movie which we want to know the meaning through Charles Sanders Peirce’s Semiotic with the triangle of meaning model consists of three main elements, which are sign, object, and interpretant. This research used the triangulation technique, The examination of the data validity technique that utilizes one other outside the data for the purposes of checking or comparing the data such as the interviews conducted by the author to two informants as the information truthchecking. The data collection techniques are the observation, documentation, and interview. The result of the research showed that this movie wants to deliver a message to the audiences that the movie is also presenting positive things to the public despite its action-criminal genre by adding the loving father role elements. The scene cuts presented in this movie have 5 father roles which are described in the entire movie, Caregive, Teacher and Role Model, Monitor and Disciplimanian, Protector and Advocate
