This article approaches the photographic work of Pierre Verger, from the perspective of (re)reading his images as an interpretive support in the teaching of arts. The experience took place in a public high school class in the municipality of Lauro de Freitas, Bahia, Brazil. As a propelling thread, it brings the premise of Ana Mae Barbosa, in which it is necessary to develop in students the political conscience, the demystification of colonizing myths and the study of decolonizing movements.
