Ventilation is the process of introducing outside air into a building space. Ventilated air is usually heated, cooled, and dehumidified, depending on the weather conditions. The amount of fresh air delivered by the Air Handling Unit (AHU) is proportional to the maximum design occupancy of the building. Even though the space is only partially occupied, the actual occupancy rarely reaches the maximum design occupancy, but the AHU continually operates at the maximum ventilation rate. This frequently leads to excessive ventilation, resulting in higher than necessary energy consumption.
