The article presents the result of the analysis of machinability of cast irons with different physical and mechanical properties. The thermal processes that occur in the cutting zone and the influence of cutting modes and geometric parameters of the cutting elements of the face mills are considered. The possibilities of processing cast iron with various tool materials, in particular superhard materials based on cubic boron nitride (CBN), taking into account their physical and mechanical characteristics, force and temperature loads. The influence of cutting modes and geometrical parameters of cutting parts of CBN tools on their stability and reliability, and on the quality of machined surfaces of cast iron parts is carried out.
