Dropouts are one of the most visible failures of our current educational system. Their presence is painfully obvious and extremely costly when considered in terms of public expenditure and wasted potential (DeBlois, 1989). One of the brightest options for addressing this societal malady is that of assigning troubled students to alternative schools. These high schools have become a widely used method of dealing with the problem of placement for dropout students and students at-risk for dropping out who seem unable or unwilling to function in regular education classrooms.
