This research is a library-based research. In the research process, the researcher uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The researcher uses the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens as the object of research. The researcher uses binary opposition theory from Lévi-Strauss to analyze social inequality and opposing characteristics of Oliver's caregivers in treating him as an orphan. The researcher collects data indicating the existence of social inequality and opposing characteristics of the caregivers through the intrinsic elements contained in the novel. The purpose of this research is to find out two opposing things in the novel, both in terms of the characteristics of the characters and the setting of the place
