Comparative Study of the Wisdom Values in the Sundanese Traditional Houses and the Stilt House Designed by Architect Tan Tjiang Ay

Architecture in the design process requires the support of other sciences to convey the message of knowledge. Aesthetics as a branch of philosophy that studies the values of philosophy are commonly used to study the objects of tradition in Indonesia, including Sundanese traditional houses that store noble wisdom values. At present, houses that are built based on the noble wisdom values are very rarely found. A senior architect, Tan Tjiang Ay who designed a modern stilt house in the North Bandung area, is one of the architects who considered these values. His design really showed the philosophical aspects and the use values as found in the tradition of Sundanese society. To prove this, a study was conducted by comparing the Sundanese traditional houses with the stilt house designed by Tan Tjiang Ay. This study uses the qualitative, phenomenological and aesthetic research approach. Te benefits gained from this research are: it is expected that the architects in particular and the society in general, are able to find valuable knowledge in the process of building houses today, because a house is a work of art as well as a message that gives a strong influence on the residents and the environment.
