A participant observation study was undertaken in August 1995 during the 55th Annual Black Hills Classic Motorcycle Rally and Races, one of the largest motorcycle rally\u27s in the United States. It was found that a status judgment may not may be made on an individual biker based on his or her appearance. It was found that while most bikers dress in a similar fashion, all are from different, varying backgrounds. It was also found that bikers come from all social classes, and what brings them all together is the love of the motorcycle and the chance to identify themselves as a biker, if only for a limited period of time.
