Incidencia de enfermedades en pejibaye (Bactris gasipaes Kunth) para palmito.

A study was made on the disease incidence in four pejibayeheart of palm varieties during the first 12 months ofdevelopment in the field. Three of the varieties werespineless (Diamantes-1, Diamantes-10 y Diamantes-20) andone was spiny (Utilis-Tucurrique). The trial was carried outin Guápiles, Caribbean region of Costa Rica. The pathogensfound were the fungi Colletotrichum sp. (Black leaf spot),Phytophthora palmivora (Rotting of the spear leaf),Drechslera setariae (Ring spot), Lasidioplodia thebromae(Frayed leaf) and the bacteria Erwinia sp. (Rotting of thestem apex). The Diamantes-10 was consistently andsignificantly less susceptible and Utilis-Tucurrique moresusceptible. But in neither case, the diseases reached a levelof economic importance. Erwinia and Phythophthora showeda relationship of higher incidence with higher rainfall andtemperature.Se determinó la incidencia de enfermedadesen cuatro variedades de palmito de pejibaye (Bactrisgasipaes Kunth), durante los 12 primeros meses dedesarrollo. Tres de ellas sin espinas (Diamantes-1, Diamantes-10 y Diamantes-20) y una con espinas (Utilis-Tucurrique).El ensayo se efectuó en la región de Guápiles, Costa Rica, demayo del 2000 a abril del 2001. Los patógenos que se encontraronen las plantas de pejibaye fueron: Colletotrichum sp.,(mancha negra de las hojas); Phytophthora palmivora, (pudricióncogollo u hoja guía); Drechslera setariae, (mancha deanillo); Lasiodiplodia theobromae (hoja deshilachada) y Erwiniasp., (pudrición del tallo, quema de hojas y hoja guía).La variedad Utilis-Tucurrique, presentó la mayor susceptibilidada todas las enfermedades, pero en ningún caso éstas llegarona un nivel de importancia económica. La incidencia deErwinia sp. y Phytophothora palmivora mostró mayor relacióncon la precipitación y alta temperatura
