Although considerable progress has been made in improving the environment, national and state goals for environmental quality still have not been completely met, and additional effort and expenditures will be necessary. To use public funds as effectively as possible, Illinois environmental officials must set priorities so that the most serious problems receive the most attention. The priorities should be based on an assessment of the current status of Illinois' environment. This technical report on air resources is one of a series aimed at documenting and assessing the status of Illinois' environment.
