Background: The aim of the study was to determine whether IL-6, sIL-6R and sgp130 were suitable as biomarkers in Crohn’s disease. To date, the published data on this topic originates from studies with small cohorts and the results are contradictory. I evaluated the levels of IL-6, sIL-6R and sgp130 as markers for disease activity in a large cohort of Crohn’s disease patients recruited from an outpatient clinic. Methods: A total of 815 measurements from 212 patients with confirmed Crohn’s disease were included.
