Évolution physique de pâte cimentaire à l'état frais et au très jeune âge

Concrete is a material which microstructure evolves quickly after its mixing. Also, physical and chemical properties at the interface with a support evolve with important consequences, in particular if this interface is solicited. For example, in the industrial process of slipforming, the interface concrete/formwork is lifted gradually with jacks during concrete hydration. Microstructure of hydrates changes during their formation in the cement matrix. Water induces a negative pressure after solid percolation, and thus suction effect. According to Terzaghi’s principle -applicable for saturated materials- granular stresses are transferred to the surface. Considering Janssen vaults and by taking into account yield stress of the concrete at the interface and then friction coefficient, it is possible to evaluate the global strength applied to a wall. Experimental devices, with a modeling approach, is developped and used with anapproach from chemistry, through physics to mecanics. Hydration of the material is explored. Its consequences on volume variations and negative pressure in the bulk material and at the interface are calculated and mesured. In the end, through an approach including material compressibility and its surrounding system, consequences of the negative pressure at the interface is evaluated by developping a specific device. The global experimental device is composed of a mobile plate studied during the representive phase of the industrial process. Measurements are carried out on a representative mortar of the concrete by varying key influent parameters as air quantity, solid volume fraction, granular packing and interfacial liquid surface tension. This PhD research work allows to improve the comprehension of the phenomena at the interface.Le sujet de la thèse consiste en la compréhension des phénomènes physiques à l’interface entre du béton frais ou semi-frais et un support métallique. Cette interface est présente dans des procédés industriels comme par exemple le procédé de construction en continu par coffrage glissant où les coffrages sont soulevés par petits à-coups et montés tout au long du coulage. Le coffrage métallique côtoie ainsi un béton à différents âges sans huile de décoffrage. La formation d’hydrates résultant de l’hydratation du ciment s’accompagne d’un changement dans la microstructure de la matrice cimentaire et d’une consommation continue de l’eau interstitielle. Cette évolution physico-chimique induit des changements drastiques sur le comportement mécanique de l’interface (adhérence, succion, contrainte de cisaillement/frottement) et donc sur les paramètres machines des procédés de mise en œuvre du matériau. Lors de construction d’ouvrages par la méthode de coffrage glissant, des micro-déchirements ou des arrachements peuvent apparaître sur la surface des murs. Ces défauts sont liés à l’adhésion du béton au coffrage. Il est primordial de réduire ces défauts de surface dans le but d’améliorer la durabilité des ouvrages. Le travail de recherche s’appuie sur des essais au laboratoire sur des dispositifs expérimentaux développés afin d’étudier les phénomènes physiques intervenant à l’interface. Un dispositif original a été développé afin de simuler et de contrôler l’effet de succion interstitielle sans effet des hydrates. Une étude sur l’origine de la pression interstitielle par analyse des différences de volumes au cours de l’hydratation de ciment a été réalisée. Enfin, un dispositif expérimental plus représentatif du procédé industriel a été développé pour étudier l’interface entre du mortier frais et un coffrage métallique
