The Newport Public Library celebrated Banned Books Week with a panel discussion dedicated to reading. National Banned Books Week, sponsored by the American Library Association, is a time to recognize the importance of the freedom to read. Panelists read passages from books that have been challenged or banned in the past then talked about why books are challenged. The library director explained that community members usually challenge library books for content that is too extreme for certain readers
