An argument is made that the practice of psychotherapy would benefit from including a model of health that is not based on the traditional medical model. The differences between the medical model and the healing approach toward psychological suffering and therapy are explored. The long-standing healing practices of the Native American Indian tradition are presented as an example of a method that utilizes aspects of the healing approach. The paper investigates the healing nature of two current clinical techniques, Jungian and Gestalt therapy, as examples of how mainstream psychotherapies have developed similar \u27 approaches to healing in their clinical practice
