The impact of nonviolent pornography consumption on intimate heterosexual relationships

This paper reviews the literature on the impact of nonviolent pornographyconsumption by males on perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors that may affectintimate heterosexual relationships. The feminist perspective, which viewspornography as subordinating women through objectification, and the liberalperspective, which views pornography as sexually liberating, are evaluated through exploring pornography\u27s effect on intimate relationships. First, selected research on the content and availability of nonviolent pornography is presented. Second, research investigating the effects of nonviolent pornography on perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors related to intimate relationships is reviewed. Third, the effects of these variables on intimate heterosexual relationships are discussed. In conclusion, the findings are discussed in relation to the liberal and feminist perspectives on pornography. In general, nonviolent pornography consumption is found to have a negative impact on heterosexual intimate relationships, supporting the feminist perspective that pornography is harmful
