Attitudes toward prostitution and rape myth acceptance

Attitudes toward prostitution and rape were surveyed in a large sample (N = 801) of university undergraduates to investigate the relationship between these two sets of attitudes. Results revealed a gender difference in attitudes toward both prostitution and rape with men more supportive of prostitution and accepting of rape myths than women. There was a positive correlation between acceptance of rape myths and support for prostitution, supporting the hypothesis that attitudes toward prostitution are a component of a cluster of attitudes towards women and sexual interactions. Additional comparisons of attitudes toward prostitution were made between the college men from this sample and Sawyer, Lewis, and Brucker\u27s (1998) sample of men arrested for attempting to solicit a prostituted woma
